PCAWL Rescue Stories: Shanny (renamed Marissa)

The tale of an injured, feral kitten

Shanny started life as a feral kitten, born beneath a shed to a feral mother. Mama cat had chosen her spot well, there were two soft-hearted people who made sure there was plenty of good food for Mama and her babies as well as the other members of the little colony. Furthermore, these wonderful people found someone to TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) the feral colony, thereby ensuring the cats wouldn't keep producing kittens and were protected from diseases by vaccination.

The youngest kittens were young enough to tame, so where not returned to the colony. The kittens tamed quickly and four of them were very healthy so soon moved on to their permanent homes. The fifth kitten was Shanny, unlucky enough to have a "warble" growing in her neck that left a deep wound that needed time to heal, so she stayed in the foster home. She didn't mind too much, there were other foster kittens to play with and an older cat, SuzyQ, to mother her.

After her neck healed, she went to her first adoptive home, but Shanny didn't like it there. There were no kittens to play with, only grumpy older cats who swatted her. She was unhappy and got sick, so she went back to live with SuzyQ awhile longer. Shanny loved SuzyQ, but she really wanted a home of her own and people of her own too. Foster mom had too many kittens to spend much time with any one of them.

Then one lucky day Shanny got her wish. She moved to a house with just one other kitten, Sam, and there were several foster children there as well as her new adopted mom. All were happy to offer Shanny a lap, and Sam was happy to play with her. Little hard-luck feral kitten Shanny is now lucky little Bella with a loving home of her own.
