PCAWL Rescue Stories: Referrals
Below are stories in which PCAWL volunteers were able to facilitate the transfer of a stray/homeless dog or cat to another rescue group. PCAWL has limited foster homes and funds, and thus are very grateful to these rescue groups that generously take in animals.
Happy Ending for Pregnant Border Collie
Our heartfelt thanks to Hearthland
Humane Society for stepping in and
rescuing a pregnant border collie whose time was running out at the shelter. Due to a shortage of foster homes in the Rolla area,
PCAWL volunteers tried desperately to find another licensed rescue to take her and the effort paid off for Maggie.
Maggie gave birth to 10 puppies shortly after finding safe haven with a generous foster parent from the Heartland Humane Society.
You can read about her and see a lot of wonderful puppy photos on the KrazyKatLady blog. (Pictures shown are courtesy of that delightful blog).
Happy Ending for Charles Cavalier Springer
This little girl was left at the shelter in Fall 2008 and PCAWL volunteers became concerned, because she wasn't getting adopted and time was of the essence. Her shy manner, funny-looking eyes, and matted coat did not help her chances at adoption. Moreover, the few PCAWL foster homes were all full.
A dedicated volunteer sent out a plea to Missouri rescue groups and luckily a licensed rescue agreed to take her. PCAWL helped her on her way by taking her to the Rolla Animmal Hospital and paying for the caring staff to bathe her, cleane her ears, trim her nails, cut out her matts, and vaccinate her. Thanks to Angel Acres Animal Rescue, little Belle is now safe in a foster home, and the future looks bright for her.
This is just a sample of the stories in which PCAWL volunteers make a difference. If you are interested in helping PCAWL, your donations help PCAWL save lives. Also, consider volunteering or fostering. Every contribution, financially or otherwise, by a caring individual helps tremendously in our group.
