PCAWL Rescue Stories: Petey
Before he was even born, Petey was in a precarious situation. His mom was pregnant, homeless, and a pit bull. Luckily, she showed up at the door of a local rescuer, who generously decided to take care of the mother. If she had taken the mother to a local shelter, the pregnant dog woul
d probably have been euthanized.
When the 9! puppies were born, the rescuer wanted to make sure they went to good homes and were never used for breeding or fighting purposes. So a group of PCAWL members donated some of their own money to help with the spaying and neutering of the puppies. The rescuer then screened and adopted the lucky puppies to their homes.
Except one puppy wasn’t so lucky. For some reason, he ended up at the local shelter months later and his family never came to claim him. However, Lady Luck seemed to be smiling on him, a
s he was adopted from the shelter.
Unfortunately, the adopter reportedly had financial difficulties and had to return the large puppy. It looked like his time was running out, and the original rescuer did not have room to take him back. She appealed to PCAWL members and volunteers, and one generously stepped up to the plate.
The foster parent named him Petey after the dog on the Rascals. Thanks to her, Petey had something rarely granted to homeless animals: a third chance at a happy life. He was adopted shortly after by co-workers of the foster parent, and is truly in his forever home now.
