PCAWL Rescue Stories: Mayze and Pups
This pretty Border Collie girl showed up at a PCAWL members house as a stray. After several weeks passed of listing her to see if a previous owner could be found, none came forward. She was very underweight, full of ticks and fleas and had been on the run for who knows how long. After a few weeks had passed and she began to put on weight, it was discovered by our vet that she was pregnant. X-rays were taken and she was found to be ready to birth 5 puppies very soon. What a surprise that was!
So she was placed for adoption and
applications were accepted from Petfinder for her
potential adoption after her puppies could be born,
and weaned. A wonderful family was found for Mayze
from the Branson area and they met and all went well.
All we had to do now was wait for the puppies.
They were soon born and she was a wonderful little mama to her five new pups. They grew and were placed up for adoption and all found wonderful caring families to give them all homes! Mayze was named by her new adopters from Branson and she was spayed and microchipped and ready to go to her new home. She had been with her foster family at this point for many months.
Well, they came to get her and tears were shed, but a
happy life we knew she would have. At her new adopters
ho
me, she became very depressed and was not herself at
all. Her new family was very worried about her. For
those of you that know this breed, Border Collies
become very attached to an owner and it would seem
that she wanted to go back home to be with her foster
family. Her new adoptive family made the decision to
bring her back to her foster family and they were glad
to offer her a forever family.
So, as it turns out,
she had found her family those many months ago, when
she wondered into their yard where she was fed, loved
and given a warm and comfortable place to birth her
family. Bonds were formed that were not to be
broken
and all she wanted was to be with the family who had
given her a chance and the love she had always hoped
she would find she found that very first day!
