PCAWL Rescue Stories: Chance
Chance was born with a heart defect, a racing heart murmur that his veterinarian diagnosed when he was but a few short weeks old. All his brothers and sisters continued to thrive and grow, but little Chance would not be like his siblings. The veterinarian told the breeders that the little puppy was not expected to live past a year of life. The breeders decided to leave the puppy in the hands of the vet, to either put him down or to give him to a rescue group that may be able to help him find a home.
It was at this point that a PCAWL volunteer offered to take the puppy home and give him a "Chance" to live. The prognosis was not good, but Chance did not know any of that and he bounces and plays and lives just like any little puppy does. An ad was placed to help little Chance find the "right" family. A lot of people came forward wanting to offer Chance a home for however long that he had to live. The family needed to be someone special who could have a bright outlook and be able to handle what may come regardless.
A very nice couple did come forward and decided that they could offer the life that he needed for as long as he had to be with
them. They said that a little bit of life lived would be far better than none at all. They would look at him as a special gift and simply enjoy the time that he had to give them. Chance still lives and continues to thrive. We do not know how much time he has here with his family nor what the future holds, but one thing is for certain, he is loved by his new family no matter what may come for as long as he has to live.
