PCAWL Rescue Stories: Buttercup & Sylvester

Buttercup is one of six kittens born to a mother rescued from the Animal Shelter when she was pregnant. Animal control can only release pregnant or too young animals to a group such as PCAWL so before PCAWL existed, Buttercup's mother (Crystal) and her six babies would have died. Buttercup knew nothing of this of course. He was perfectly happy growing up in a large litter in the foster home.

Sylvester's early life was a little more turbulent than Buttercup's. Sylvester's mother was hit by a car when the kitten was about 3 weeks old. He was too young to eat on his own, so went home from the Shelter to the same PCAWL home that was fostering Crystal. Unfortunately, Crystal was not a bit interested in adding the orphan to her large litter, so Sylvester was a bottle baby spending his days in an incubator at the foster mom's workplace and going home with her at night. He was a cute, cuddly and very demonstrative little character with a multi-kinked tail to add to his charm. He won foster mom's heart at any rate.

When he started eating solid food, he was as messy an eater as only orphaned kittens can be and his fluffy coat was a huge mess. Foster mom, in desperation, offered the food-covered kitten to Crystal for a bath. Crystal growled, sniffed then started bathing the little guy who immediately joined the litter. Having 6 playmates and a furry foster mom after living in the incubator for a week was a wonderful change in Sylvester's opinion. Life was good! His best pal was Buttercup. Now Sylvester and his best pal will be lifelong pals in their new home!

Happy ending in July 2008! Check out the photos below from January 2009.
