PCAWL Rescue Stories: Sport, Ruby, Glory, & Lucky (American bulldog mix puppies)
These four sweet puppies were found in our local area
dumped at a very young age. Local shelter staff
picked them up and
since they were so young in age,
called Pcawl to ask if we had room to take them into
our foster program and save them. We did not really
have room, but agreed to take them and rotate homes
until we could find a permanent place to keep them to
get them healthy. Volunteers dubbed them Sport,
Glory, Sable and Lucky.
It was touch and go at first, the one male puppy, Sport became very sick in the first week they were with us. We feared the worst and a visit to the vet and a Parvo test confirmed our fears. Our new rescues were diagnosed with the deadly disease of Parvo. It was a very sad day as we really did not know if these little ones were going to make it and with funds low, how much could we invest in saving their lives?
Well, one of our volunteers
committed to take them home and give it a shot, we
felt we at least had to try, hearts were already
invested and there was no turning back on these
babies. After several rounds of intravenous liquids
and some new antibiotics, these babies were showing
signs of improvement after a few short days. Sport,
the sickest of them all, was actually eating and
getting up to walk. Feeding them a high protein diet
and constant love and attention, really seemed to help
these little ones want to survive. In the end, they
all pulled through and were able to be placed up for
adoption after testing free of any signs of the Parvo
virus.
We are happy to report, that after p
osting
these cuties on Petfinder.com, we were able to place them
all into some wonderful and loving homes. Here is
Sport, now Titus with his new family, the once very
sick puppy running happily with his new family.
These
puppies taught me a lesson that I will never forget,
sometimes what it really takes, is just a whole lot of
love! We can all find time for that!
