About the Photos on PCAWL
Where are they from?
In 2005, in cooperation with the shelter, dedicated volunteers took photos of shelter animals
and upload them to Petfinder. Starting in early 2007, the shelter took over the photos and listings. The photos are just some of the hundreds of cats and dogs that have passed through the shelter.
Why are some of the photos of the dogs taken behind bars?
To keep the postings updated, each member visited the shelter separately. Photographing a moving target by yourself is quite a challenge, especially when your subject is a squirming puppy or energetic dog! Additionally, shelter policy restricts only the animal control officers or official volunteers from entering the kennels due to liabiility concerns.
Have all these cats & dogs been adopted?
When we look into beseeching eyes and take their photos, we never know if these animals will be one of the lucky ones or not. We do not know the fate of some of these animals. The short answer is that they represent the reality at the shelter. Hopefully, most of them have been adopted, but some were humanely euthanized, and a few may have been returned to their owner.
How can I help?
If you have the time and an Internet connection, you can advertise some of these animals on other electronic bulletin boards. Or if you have a website, you can advertise Petfinder animals in the area. Please email Mary Aycock for more information. You can also volunteer in other ways.
